Please excuse spelling etc., I'm not on good terms with the keyboard (nor writing in English) yet.
The plane from CPH to Paris was delayed - of course. And Charles de Gaulle is not the best airport in the world, so we had to go through a security check again, which made us even more delayed. But we made it, because the plain to India was delayed as well. That was Western Civilisation. In Delhi airport, everything went smooth. Maybe something to think about? A driver from our Hotel waited for us at the airport. He drove us to our new home, until the 4th of jan.
The next day we slept very late, we where tired + jetlagged. We went to the tourist office, one of many in Delhi, and a guy told us that Delhi would be terrible for a whole week, and recommented a 5 day tour to Risikesh etc for 445$. We decided to prospone that tour, because we've already paid for our hotel - a big mistake, thanks for the not so good advice, Kilroy. Instead we took a ride with a cap, and saw the Parliament and President Palace from the road, beautiful. Later we stopped at India Gate (Triumf arch to comemorate WW1 soldiers). A lot of Indians thought we were the main attraction, we're in quite a few family albums now :) We also saw a temple for Laxmi, very different from our churh architecture! We had dinner and saw Prirates 1 in our hotel room. We just luuuve the Indian movie channel (the other channels show horrible soaps, eik)
Yesterday we went to Connaught Place, down town. Stressing, almost depressing. I won't recommend anybody to go there. To many beggars, hustlers, and selfappointed guides, you really don't need. You get toughskinned in India. We've made a few inexpensive mistakes with rickshaws and at markeds, but we learned from them, and can live without those 5$ ;) Had an early dinner, and I'm trying to convince Kia that veg.food is cheaper, but she needs her chicken ;) I think she'll come around soon enough, though.
Today we went to the Red Fort - beautiful. And quiet, like a paradise in Delhi. A couple of days ago we would have found the place a little crowded, but we've already learned something about India.
Now we're in Channa market. It's a lot better than Connaught Place, we can walk a little without people constantly talking to us, and it's close to our hotel. So today India seems like a much better place than yesterday. I'm really looking forward to our trip on the 4th though, meeting new people and getting out of Delhi.
Lots of love to all of you,
Happy new years, Mette
ps. Anne, bare spoerg mor og far hvis der er noget du ikke forstaar :)
